The Bathinda police on Monday claimed to have busted a gang involved in purchasing country made weapons at wholesale rates from Uttar Pradesh and further selling these to gangsters and smugglers. Officials of the CIA 2 wing have arrested four members of the gang and recovered nine country made weapons and 21 bullets from their possession. The police are still searching for two more members of the gang.A case them has been registered at the Talwandi Sabo police station. While addressing a press conference SP(D) Swaran Singh said a police team was conducting a check at Khanda Chowk in Talwandi Sabo, when ASI Gurinder Singh received a tip-off that a few youths were bringing country made weapons from UP in a car to sell these in various parts of the state. He added that the police team raided Talwandi Sabo Gurusar link road and stopped a Scorpio car. During checking four .315 pistols, three other guns and two .32 bore country made weapons from the accused. Even 22 live bullets have also been reocvered from them. The accused have been identified as Jagsir singh, Jagdev Singh residents of Rayia village, and Rajinder Singh and Gurjant Singh, residents of Sukhladhi village. While, two gang members Gora Singh and Birbal Singh are still absconding. He claimed that during interrogation, accused Jagsir Singh disclosed that earlier, he uses to sell poppy husk while UP resident Malkit Singh used to supply him. Now he started supplying them illegal weapons from UP, Jagsir added. He further disclosed that he talked to Amrik Singh and Birbal to sell the weapons and the latter told them that they needed two for themselves and the rest they would sell. The police have also claimed that Jagsir Singh was the kingpin of the gang and the Scorpio car, which has been recovered from them, had a fake number.
