A team of the counter intelligence wing of the district police seized 125kg of poppy husk contained in six bags here on Sunday.
The poppy husk was being smuggled in a truck filled with onions. The CI team arrested two persons on the spot. The accused have been identified as truck owner Balwinder Singh of Jaitu and driver Mohinder Singh of Jeeda village. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered against them at the Canal Colony police station.
ASI Makhan Singh,who is the incharge of the counter intelligence wing of Bathinda police, said , On Sunday morning, we had received a tip off that a few people were smuggling poppy husk from Madhya Pradesh in a truck filled with onions. Acting on it, a joint team of the CI wing and the Canal Colony police laid a naka near Badal Kanchian. During the checking of the truck PB 04 AA 3491, six bags of poppy husk was recovered, which were lying behind the onions.
